Anderson County Lookup Resources

Feel free to request a look-up from any of the volunteers listed below. Please limit each request to one name and put ANDERSON COUNTY, KS LOOKUP in the subject line of your request to insure the message is not overlooked or accidently deleted. Please be as specific as possible and please honor any conditions established by the volunteers. If you request a lookup, don't forget to thank your volunteer for their time! If you have information you are willing to share or references you can do lookups in, please let me know!

Please note that requesting a lookup is NOT the same as submitting a query. If you would like a query posted on the Queries page, please submit one using the form available at that page. That way your query will be formatted in a standard fashion, and will go into the comprehensive index. You are welcome to submit both lookups requests and queries as often as you wish.

Early Gleanings, Vols 1-5, by Dorothy Kipper Lickteig

Dorothy Lickteig has given permission for me to do limited lookups in the Early Gleanings books. These books contains extracts from many Anderson county newspapers and cover the years from 1867-1986. Please note that especially in the early Anderson county history, many years are missing.

Requests for lookups from these books are limited to one surname. Please provide as much information as you can about the family you are interested in. If there is extensive information available for your family, it is recommended that you contact Dorothy Lickteig directly. Copies of the information in these books may also be obtained from the Anderson County Historical Society and/or Dorothy Lickteig.

Anderson County Kansas Family Stories and History

Published in 1991 by the Anderson County Historical Society, this books contains hundreds of histories of families in Anderson county, as well as limited cemetery records and local history.

Anderson County Kansas Cemetery Book, by Dorothy Kipper Lickteig

The book covers all known burials in Anderson county cemeteries from 1854 through 1995. In addition, there are supplements available for the years 1996 through 2001. This book is not indexed and the cemeteries are not always in alphabetical order.

The History of Anderson County, Kansas, by W. A. Johnson

This book, published in 1877, contains information on the first 25 years of Anderson county history. I am happy to do lookups in this book but please limit requests to people that might reasonably have been in the county between 1854 and 1876. An every name index is available. Portions of this book have been transcribed and are available in the Archives section of this site.

History of Anderson County, by Judge J.Y. Campbell

This book was published 1876 and covers the early history of the county. It was originally published as a 40 page pamphlet and is full of personal anecdotes and stories about the early days in the county. Please limit lookups to one surname at a time.

A History of Anderson County Kansas, by Harry Johnson

This book was published in 1936 and contains newspaper extracts, histories of the early settlement of Anderson county, biographies of prominent citizens, lists of schools and post offices, and descriptions and histories of many of the towns in Anderson county. Please limit lookups to one surname at a time.

Greeley's Golden Years, by Dorothy Kipper Lickteig

This is a two volume set of books on the history of Greeley, KS. The first volume is not indexed and is primarily a history of the town, with many photos and some cemetery records. The second volume consists almost entirely of extracted articles from the local newspapers and other historical sources, covering the period from 1837-2001.

Dorothy Lickteig

Has an extensive database on the Lickteig and Schneider families of Anderson county and is willing to share information.

Philip Sutton

Has gathered extensive research of the descendants of John Benjamin Sutton and Mercy Ann (Cutler) Sutton, concentrating on the Sutton Valley area Cemetery, School, Church and the pioneer families that settled the area in the 1850's (Sutton, South, Johnson, Clark, Paradise, Osborn, Macklin, Robinson, etc.). Collecting photos of these pioneers is of major interest.
